How to Check the Fuel Consumption ?

We know the E6B flight computer is always very useful and multi-purpose, pilot student can use if for computing time, speed, distance, altitude, true airspeed, and density altitude problems. Conversions, nautical and statute scales, etc. So how to use a flight computer to check the fuel consumption? This blog will show you details, similar like the calculation for speed, time, and distance, we can also use E6B flight computer for checking fuel consumption, remaining time, and fuel burned rate.

Its regular computations are:

  1. Fuel consumption = Fuel burned rate x Time
  2. Remaining time = Fuel consumption / Fuel burned rate
  3. Fuel burned rate = Fuel consumption / Time

For Example:

How much fuel will be used during a flight of 1 hr. and 10 min. if the fuel burned rate is 12 gallons per hour ?

  • Rotate the small disc to make the index points to 12 on the outer scale, as below image shows.
  • Locate 1: 10 on the hour scale, on the small disc.
  • Read jump cross to the outer scale, which shows 14, it means 140 gallons.

So 140 gallons fuel will be used during a flight of 1 hr. and 10 min. at the fuel burned rate 12 gallons/hr.

It is also easy to see 160 gallons fuel will be used during a flight of 1 hr. and 20 min. at the fuel burned rate 12 gallons/hr.

Below youtube performs a how-to-use instruction with CYA aluminum flight computer, hope it is helpful for you!
